I finally took my courage together and posted part of my story to two ms forums earlier today, with the simple idea of sharing my experience and hopefully show how much fitness and healthy eating can improve your life with MS. Specially after all the support and feedback I got from fitness boards in general I thought it might be a good idea to just share some of what has happened the past few month with the MS community directly and hear if they had similar experiences.
Well, that didn’t go too well. I guess mentioning specific programs immediately gets perceived as trying to market something. Both posts immediately got quite harsh replies. The first one pretty obviously suggesting that my post was just a scam attempt to try to get people into buying P90X and wasn’t a real blog, the other thread in a different forum got very sarcastically replied to along the lines of “thank you, we ms patients actually know that it’s not possible to do a program like that and we don’t come here making the first post a marketing post”. Maybe I would make a much better sales-person then I thought without even knowing. I was reading over the posts again and I can see how it might come over as such. But seriously, I wouldn’t know how to better formulate the past few month 🙁
I already requested for both threads to be removed. I must say, that was quite a harsh experience.
Funny that the most support is coming from normal fitness forums whereas MS forums only seem to think of people trying to scam them.
I guess I should tone down the links in the posts on the blog a bit. On the other hand, it’s probably also quite understandable: after all, chronic illnesses are good targets for any kind of scam and money making. I already made a post about the whole CCSVI debate for example but the quite aggressive reaction to an initial post really surprised me. Not to mention the same reaction occurred on two separate forums. I guess that means those forums get drown in scam posts judging from the reactions, so sad to know.
Still, I have to admit, that experience just now, really hurt and kind of downed my enthusiasm about sharing.
Just to make it clear:
I am not selling any products or am benefiting financially or in any other way from talking about the programs I used and am currently using.
